Create a Professional Logo Ready for Printing
One of the most common issues we see when customers submit artwork is a logo with a white background.
While this might look fine on a white document, it can become very noticeable when placed on a colored backdrop, retractable banner, table throw, or trade show display.
The good news?
Removing the background from your logo is easier than you might think.
In this guide, we'll show you how to remove your logo's background using Canva. We've also included a step-by-step video so you can follow along.
Why Does a Transparent Background Matter?
A transparent logo gives you much more flexibility when designing marketing materials.
Instead of having a white box around your logo, it blends seamlessly into your design.
Transparent logos are ideal for:
- Trade show backdrops
- Retractable banners
- Table throws
- Table runners
- Canopies
- Flags
- Business cards
- Brochures
- Social media graphics
- Website graphics
It creates a cleaner, more professional appearance.
Before You Begin
You'll need:
- A Canva account (Canva Pro is required for the built-in Background Remover.)
- Your logo file
- A few minutes to follow along
If you don't have Canva Pro, there are other background removal tools available, but Canva's is one of the easiest and most accurate.
Step 1: Upload Your Logo
Open Canva and create a new design.
Click Uploads and upload your logo file.
Drag your logo onto the canvas.
Step 2: Remove the Background
Select your logo.
Click Edit Image.
Choose Background Remover.
Canva will automatically detect and remove the background.
If necessary, use the Erase or Restore tools to clean up any remaining areas.
Step 3: Download as a PNG
This step is very important.
Click Share → Download.
Choose:
- PNG
- Transparent Background (Canva Pro)
Downloading as a PNG preserves the transparency.
Avoid downloading as a JPG because JPG files do not support transparent backgrounds.

Common Mistakes We See
Before submitting your artwork for print, double-check that:
❌ Your logo doesn't have a white box around it.
❌ You didn't save it as a JPG.
❌ The edges aren't jagged after removing the background.
❌ The logo isn't blurry or low resolution.
